Anybody that's fallen for Bose marketing hasn't a clue about loudspeaker physics in the first place. That is why I use the intellexual article. Non-techies can read it and walk away with a better understanding of what to look for in a quality loudspeaker. When I encounter audiophile-types that show a willingness to move beyond the BS reviews and articles in the Stereo/HiFi/xxxPhile magazines, I'll point them to Art Ludwig's excellent site at http://www.silcom.com/~aludwig/ to get them started. After that, I'd strongly recommend F. Alton Everest's /Master Handbook of Acoustics/ as well as Gary Davis' classic /Sound Reinforcement Handbook/. Very good foundation stuff in all of those resources for jumping into the world of acoustics. After that, you need to spend as much time as you can in front of all kinds of speakers listening to a good selection of reference material. Stuff like Jane Monheit /Live at the Rainbow Room/, Diana Krall /Girl in the Other Room/, and Nickel Creek's self-titled. Acoustical instruments and female vocals are the way to 'read' a loudspeaker and how it performs. And if you'd like to learn more about how a small room plays into acoustics, there's some downloads and very articulate folks over at http://forum.studiotips.com/index.php _______________________________________________ mythtv-users mailing list [email protected] http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
