All of the criticisms you raise regarding JWS are valid.

However, the aim isn't so much to come up with a single JNLP descriptor
that will suit every user but rather to provide a starting point for
those sites who'd prefer to deploy MZmine2 via JWS rather than the
ZIP/tarball.  They can customise the JNLP file according to their local
users' needs.  If you like, it is similar to providing .bat/.sh/.command
files that users can customise according to their needs.

That's right.  It's work I'm happy to do as it helps simplify local
deployment for us but before I do I need to work out what needs to be
done and whether it's supported by the broader MZmine2 community.
