Hi Don, Well, the LED's on top should help. Upon Reset, the BOOT ROM led should be on. When you click run, that LED will turn off and the SD Card LED should flash like it's being accessed.
I drew up a diagram for serial cable connection... I'll check if it's on the wiki, but for now, please find attached.
