Don - That sounds like the "Earlier" V2 board. The later run I had fabricated doesn't have any code, and also has jumper JP10 added.
1K resistor nets worked fine for me. Unicorn Electronics carries the 7805 in TO-3 format. You can also use LM309 or LM323 - both of which came in a TO-3 format. Jameco carries the LM323K Mouser carries the LM309K and LM323K, but sit down before you look at the price.
