Don:  I'd be interested in a bracket for permanent mounting ... not just
alignment.  You might consider over-sizing it in one or both dimensions and
then letting builders trim it down to fit their particular application.
The critical dimensions are the interior and mounting holes themselves; the
outer perimeter (dimensions, shape) much less so.

How thick a plate are you intending to use?
