Yes, we are monitoring VMWare using both Nagios and MRTG.

I have written the check_esx plugin which is available from Nagiosexchange.
There is a later version, though, which fixes a couple of issues and adds
some new functionality - email me if you want a copy or I will upload to
NagiosExchange later.

The ESX SNMP daemon supports much of the host_mib so various checks like CPU
can be done via this.  I have a number of templates (for both Nagios and
MRTG) if you're interested.
