there are several usefull addons to discover new hosts /equipments automatically.

1. as mentioned nmap2nagios

2. check find new hosts http://www.nagiosexchange.org/Networking.53.0.html?&tx_netnagext_pi1[p_view]=275

    this is actually a plugin that adds new devices

3. Nace. http://www.nagiosexchange.org/Configuration.20.0.html?&tx_netnagext_pi1[p_view]=277

   generate the list automatically.
