Look into using something like RT from Bestpractical. There are quite a few posts about making them work together. Basically, if there is a problem with a host or a service it will open a ticket, and then you can take the ticket from RT, once the system comes back up the ticket is closed.
If you don't have a ticketing system it may be a nice integration.
