On www.nagiosexchange.org you can download my checkagent utility, which will probe a remote host for various agents (NRPE, NRPE/SSL, pNSclient (including NC_Net, NSClient++), BigBrother, NagEventLog, SNMP (support in beta)) and report on what it finds.
