Joe,The problem you are having lies *outside* of Nagios. You need to configure the local system (where Nagios is installed) to properly send oubound mail through the Exchange server.

Derek, That is pretty much what i though, but i guess i have something goofed up. It will send mail enternal to our domain/exchange server, but nothing out side of our domain, (i.e. Vtext.com). Is there a way inside Nagios to tell it to send all out bound mail through our Exchange server? On 2/24/06, Derek J. Nagios basically injects its e-mail into its local MTA on that box, which is configured however you set it up (and that's a little outside the scope of this list, but relaying to offsite domains like Verizon should be a factory config pretty much). cheers, D On Feb 24, 2006, at 3:13 PM, Joe Jackson wrote:Derek, Thanks for your comments. I think you pretty much understand what I am trying to do, but just to clarify; I would like to be able to send messages to cell phones..Right, well our corporate cell carrier is Virizon, if you don't already know, you can send an SMS text message to a Verizon cell phone by sending an SMTP e-mail to the phone number like this: (cell Phone-Number)@ vtext.com, now is there a way to make Nagios send mail to that number? I noticed that there is no where in Nagios (unless i missed it some where) to setup SMTP gateway information, so sending e-mail to outside e-mail addresses isn't possible, please correct if i am wrong. And, as you point out, e-mailing to an e-mail address is all well and good unless your report is "Core Router Down", then you might find out about it, several times, after you've repaired it. :-) You want to investigate using enterprise-level SMS services. We're in the process right now of doing some of that research ourselves, and so would be interested to hear from others. There are two ways you can do this. If your paging company has an email-pager gateway, you can simply have Nagios send an email message to your pager address. An example of this type of address might look like:[EMAIL PROTECTED]You should note that sending notifications through email might fail if SMTP or DNS services are down or if your connection to the greater Internet is down. An alternative to sending pager messages through an email gateway would be to hook a modem up to your monitoring host and have Nagios dial out through the modem and send the message using the TAP (IXO) protocol. There are several programs that can do this for you on *NIX systems. Two popular ones seem to be Sendpage and QuickPage.
