As an aside, there is a lightweight Oracle client which can be quite handy for some applications; unfortunately it doesn't (or didn't last time I looked) include "tnsping" so isn't too much use with the current nagios oracle plugins as far as I am aware.
I'm sorry I haven't gotten around to writing any plugins which can use it yet. I expect to soon though unless I give up and install the full-blown Oracle client instead.
