I placed mine out of direct airflow and beside my rack. It's at about five feet. Generally you don't want air blowing across across the probe, because you'll get a big fluctuation from when the A/C is on and when it's off. I experimented with various places in the room and placed it finally at the warmest point beside the rack. Since the rack dumps so much heat, it's roughly 6-8 degrees warmer from one side of the room (no equipment) to the other.
