Actually, on my system check_mailq returns OK status when nagios does
not have rights to read the queue folder. So it also seems a little
flawed. Might get better results with Qmail instead of sendmail I
suppose.

FYI, this was fixed in the plugins 1.4.4 release. Please try that and let me know if it is still a problem.
