Exactly. I posted 3 of these yesterday on NagiosExchange.org that I
wrote in python which cover 3ware, LSI MegaRaid and Linux Software Raid.
They are extremely simple to get working and work for me on both 32-bit
and 64-bit servers.
The 3ware and Linux Software plugins also have the advantage of telling
you when an array is rebuilding as well as giving you the rebuild %
complete which I thought was a useful feature.

If you have a CLI utility you can write a simple perl script that
compare the output of some commands to know output. I have one for
Adaptec AACRAID and one for a SATA 3ware RAID (true RAID) controller.
For PERC RAID (LSI Megaraid on Dell Poweredge servers) there's an SNMP
agent, so I just used check_snmp with thresholds to page on non-optimal
array.
