AIX used to not support RFC2790 (HOST-RESOURCES-MIB) which is required to use most generic snmp plugins to query data. AIX 5.2 and earlier had this problem. I just snmpwalked one of my AIX 5.3 systems and it returned HOSTMIB data. You can also run Net-SNMP on AIX instead of the default snmpd.
