Hello list, I'm trying to get my head around nagios' flexibility on notification. My goal is to have certain services alert certain individuals via email and alert those same individuals via txt message only if services/hosts are critical.
My approach I think is to define contacts that use two different templates: generic (full notification options) and cell (only d,u,r and u,c,r), then call those templates in my contact definitions. My question is in the assigning of those contacts to services. If I have a generic-service template with contact admin, and a cell-service template that includes generic-service and needs to also alert admincell, can it inherit the existing contact definitions, or do I have to spell them out again : Contact_groups admincell Or Contact_groups admin, admincell ? I saw this page on inheritance http://nagios.sourceforge.net/docs/3_0/objectinheritance.html that stipulates you can use a + for service/host _escalations_ but does not directly call out the way inheritence works for contacts in regular service or host definitions. I hope this was clear, thanks in advance! -Matthew ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc.
