Hi, Nagios 2.9 NRPE 2.8.1 Solaris 2.8 on both Client and Server hosts.
I'm trying to test whether nrpe works on a client host. I have built nrpe on my server host and copied it to the client. I have inetd set up to start the nrpe daemon as needed. I'm running into the classic problem mentioned in the subject. To get this I run, while logged in to the client box, #/opt/nagios/libexec/check_nrpe -n -H 127.0.0.1 -c check_procs The response comes back: CHECK_NRPE: Response packet had invalid CRC32 I found a reference to a patch for this developed by Simon Kitching some time in 2003 or 2004 that redirects the STD_ERR of the output of the check command to /dev/null: http://osdir.com/ml/network.nagios.devel/2004-03/msg00004.html (It's at the bottom of the page) What do I do with this patch? Is it already incorporated into the source code of Nagios 2.9? Does everyone run nrpe as a standalone daemon? Apparantly running this way causes the STD_ERR to be redirected to /dev/null already. I would rather use inetd to control operation of the nrpe. Please advise.
