Please reference specifically so we can all be on the same page (no pun
intended). I think I know the page you're talking about but it's not in
reference to using those as replacements for host addresses.

This might almost be a valid definition for nagios-3 but you still need
to specify a host address parameter (arbitrary or not, it's required)
and the other required parameters. As to whether you can use a MAC, AIM
or street address as the address for a plugin for its check, the answer
is Yes, as long as the plugin understands what to do with that
information. I'm not aware of any plugins that actually use the examples
above but they may exist.
