Here I would have to agree. I use the GUI a LOT to do my basic configuration and speed things along but you need to understand the files and how they interact to get the most bang for your buck. I'm writing some simple plugins to alert us on issues with our evironmentals now that the new CRAC units, etc that we purchased are now SNMP manageable. There's not a lot out there so taking a simple "noc operator's" stance to configuring Nagios isn't sufficient.

Also, it'll hinder you getting very far if you can't handle the config of Nagios.
