I am assuming you are talking about the "Hostgroup Overview" section. The three columns are here to stay unless someone writes a patch modify the cgis or unless we move away from the cgis in the future. And though you did not include what version of Nagios you are currently running I can safely say that you will not notice a much of a change in how status and hostgroups are displayed visually. What you see in the interface with Nagios 1.x will be basically the same as 3.x. Take a look at the screenshots at http://www.nagios.org if you want to look interface of Nagios 3. Nagios has changed much in terms of performance, stability, and functionality.
