You assume correct. Nagios will keep its logs forever. It will store the files in the directory specified, normally /usr/local/nagios/var/ nagios.log and the rest will archive in /usr/local/nagios/var/archives using the rotation specified. It is up to the user to manage the length of time to keep log files.
