I actually wrote a tool to do this back in Nagios 2.something, but I've lost the original code for it, so I'm glad it's been sorted in 3.0. We need to do the same thing for NRPE - if the NRPE daemon fails, we get a bomb of alerts - glad to hear this is no more.
