I haven't used that specifically, but I do use check_openmanage on all my dell boxes (perc 3/4/5/6) It works nicely and checks all hardware components, including physical/logical drive status. It will generate alerts if a physical drive fails and the volume becomes degraded; along with any related errors in the esm log, if you use this to monitor that also.
