Distro choice is really just a matter of personal preference - I don't think it's likely to affect how well Nagios works on it. CentOS 5 has some advantage in most closely matching most of the documentation. Ubuntu 10.04 has the advantage of being the easiest to install on (using the 'nagiosinc' PPA).
