Here's my humble opinion since I do both.  Gels aren't "better" than AC's but 
they are a good alternative for some clients.  If you have a client who uses 
her hands alot, like opening boxes, using a cash register for 8 hours, gels 
might not be the best choice.  It is good to know how to do gels and AC so you 
can offer your client the best product for her lifestyle.  If a client falls in 
love with gels, and most do, and she is hard on her nails I'll put a thin 
layer of AC down first and then put gels over that.  I've had good success with 
that.

Always learn more and never stop.  That way you'll be able to offer your 
clients what some can't.
