Hi Melody, The KP-12 has a friction chuck. This means you push the bit in and out of the hand piece. It's light weight and is the larger of the two handpieces.
The KP-36 has a twist lock chuck. This means you twist to unlock the chuck, put the bit in and twist it back to lock it. It is the lighter than the KP-12 but much thinner. It feels like an urgonomic pen in your hand and is very balanced. It is KUPA's best quality handpiece. If you have any other questions, I'd be happy to help.
