Hi Melody,

The KP-12 has a friction chuck. This means you push the bit in and out of the 
hand piece.  It's light weight and is the larger of the two handpieces.  

The KP-36 has a twist lock chuck.  This means you twist to unlock the chuck, 
put the bit in and twist it back to lock it. It is the lighter than the KP-12 
but much thinner. It feels like an urgonomic pen in your hand and is very 
balanced.   It is KUPA's best quality handpiece.
