Ok... so... here is my question about sculpting gels...

I am good with the whole application, just as you said EXCEPT I can't seem to
"roll" the white off my brush onto the form in a nice ball. It comes off in a
big smooshy mess... and it doesn't level. AT ALL. It would sit there in a big
lump all dang day if I didn't start mushing it around. Is it possible I have
been beating myself up over a bad container of white gel?!? Or is there
something else I may need to know?

Oh, for those who missed it, I use Brisa.... Any input would be much
appreciated...

Yeah, ditto from me, Michelle!  It took me a while to get used to sculpting
with gel…. And I use Brisa… but, I won’t ever go back to gluing tips… it just
cuts so much off your full set/repair time… even with gels, once you get your
system worked out.  Brisa is not as stiff as a lot of other gels because of its
self-leveling properties.

Typically what I do is:

Put on the form
Apply thin layer of gel over entire nail plate THEN build free edge on the
form. First a medium layer…
Remember the Brisa is going to level out immediately so I just focus on
getting it in a basic shape then lock the gel.
Then I go on to the next nail to build and you can then apply any addition gel
to any zone on the previous nail at that time, in thin layers so that you do
not apply too much gel at one time to prevent heat spike.

You just have to keep playing with it, of course and figure out what method of
application works best for you….
And thanks for the TT info!  I will check out the videos…

I am on dial-up, so that is why I haven’t already been able to watch the online
educational videos that I see posted here on this list on a regular basis..
haha… but one day when I grow up I hope to be on DSL!

HAHAHA!  Feel free to call me if you have any questions… any one here on this
list…. I am basically a CND Diva….. gels and AC…

Keep trying you'll get the hang of it!!!  Have you tried sculpting a very thin
free edge with your clear or builder first,  you could also try the reverse
method.  Greg from young nails has great tutorials on how to do this.  There
are also several TUT's on the nails tv site,  you tube videos.  They are so
worth a looksie.  Don't give up once you get the hang of it, you'll love it.

Have you tried a different gel system  that has a Paint On White gel?  I use
Starnails gel and doing P&W is very simple.  I do them as thin as I can,  just
let them level a little bit before curing, they look great and are a thinner
more natural feeling enhancement.

I used to use Zoya... I love their colors, but I have had better adhesion with
OPI. I also love Tammy Taylor polishes, but their color selection is limited.

I cleanse the nails with Scrubfresh before applying the polish, even if they
just washed...

I love hearing everyone's input though... :)

And I have tried all kinds of gels over the years... just don't like doing pink
and whites with them! I currently use Brisa. I don't like to use tips for
anything (personal preference), and sculpting with the gel is a pain for me for
some reason. So, I do clear or pink gel over a natural nail, with the white gel
paint. That is about as good as it's gonna get... LOL

Always just been an acrylic girl... (hence, the used to educate for TT)...

The polish does stay on better after the paraffin dip.  After the paraffin dip,
wipe the nails with a lint free wipe with cleanser.  Then use a “sandwich” which

Is base coat, polish, base coat, polish, and topcoat.  Polish lasts for a long
time depending on lifestyle.  For those who have trouble getting polish to stay
on

Natural nails, try Zoya.  It is toluene and formaldeyhyde free.  Sherry H  PS-
you can dip the paraffin into a plastic bag with a small Dixie cup and work it
around the really dry areas.  Then slip into heated mitts (www.starnail.com).
The mitts are electric and will keep the paraffin warm much longer.  If you
massage before the

Paraffin dip, the paraffin seals in the moisture.   This helps the hands feel
softer longer, as well as relieving arthritis pain (although temporarily).  You
can

Do the same procedure for feet.  Really helps cold, tired, achy feet.   Sherry

I tried this method tonight and I got marks from the paraffin in the polish.
Maybe if I would have let the nails dry longer, it would have worked.  I
will try it again and see.

That makes sense, the polish would stay on better if it was applied before the
parifin. Hmmm?? I have a parifin manicure tomorrow. The only problem is I have
never done her before. What if it doesn't work?

Hey Melody...

Just so everyone knows, LOL,  my mani client that the polish lasted 3 weeks on
works in the shipyard scheduling welders... computer and papers ALL day. And
this is not a... ahem ... delicate sort of woman... ;-)

My other clients are 2 nurses, a librarian, a home health assistant, a master
gardener... I think you get the point...

These ladies just ain't sittin around!!! One of the nurses has found that the
polish doesn't chip, but the sanitizer they use on their hands in the critical
care unit WEARS OFF the polish. (It is also eating the floor under the
dispensers, can you imagine what it does to their skin?!?!)

No wonder we all have a job... giggle...

Dang, all I have to say is: you ladies whose polish lasts up to 2wks on your
clients..... Those clients must not do housework or anything....!!

I have tried the oil-on-the-nailplate trick to get my polish to last like
that...and, maybe I hold my mouth wrong... But it doesn't work for me! I have
tried it on several clients and the longevity of the polish wear showed no
difference....

I am going to try this method... Wish I knew what I was doing or not doing so
that I could get those kind of results!

Hey guys. LOL, I know it seems like it wouldn't work, but I have been doing it
for years!

I put on my Nailtek, color, and CND Air Dry or Nailtek, french, and Seche Vite.
I let it set for about one minute, then I drop on CND Solar Oil and smooth it
across the nail with a feather light touch. I scoop a dollop of CND Solar
Butter (now it is called Almond Moisturizing Creme or somethin...) and I begin
my massage at the elbow on their right arm and work down to the knuckles right
above their nail. Then I do the same massage on their left arm to the nails. By
the time you do all this (takes about 10-15 minutes if you're doing it right),
you can massage the Solar Oil into their nails, adding more oil if you need to
because their skin has soaked it up.  (BTW, I book an hour for my Spa Manicures
and charge $30).

When I started doing this about 8 years ago, it was kind of an accident... I
had one of those antsy pants clients who got me all flustered. She kinda made
me... well... forget... to massage and paraffin! I did her polish and then went
"Crap!" So, I did her massage and dipped her in the wax... Lo and behold she
didn't nick her polish because it was dry and it stuck like glue!!! I always
had problems with polish not staying on for more than 2 days or so, so I
switched it up! My clients polish now lasts upwards of 2 weeks, and I have been
doing it ever since. Necessity is the mother of invention... :) I do it
slightly different now with the CND SpaManicure line... I do the paraffin after
the scrub and activator.

In fact, I have a weekly mani client who had to skip because of the weather
recently. She went 3 weeks... came in for her mani with slightly
free-edge-chipped french... after 3 WEEKS! Even I was shocked at that one...

Well, greetings from the monsoon everyone... Have a good one...

Yes, how do you massage while polish is drying?

How in the world do you massage the hands after you have polished?  I massage
the fingers and cuticles along with the hand, wrist, and forearm.

Hi Lisa. I use paraffin on every manicure. I use Creative's line, and I do the
paraffin after the exfoliating scrub and activator... then I have my clients
rinse their hands and scrub their nails- this is when I prep and polish- then
while the polish is drying I do the hand massage. If I am not using the scrub
and activator, I do the paraffin after the massage. Now that I am reading this
back, I am almost confusing myself!!! LOL...

Email me if you want me to just send you my entire procedures... I have tried
lots over the years, and have refined it down to a very specific process for
very specific reasons...

Happy filing,

Hi,

This question is for anyone out there who uses paraffin as an add on to
manicures.  At what point in the manicure do you do the paraffin?  What if you
are doing a scrub also?

I am one of those who didn't get proper schooling and was never taught
anything about a manicure beyond shaping nails, pushing back cuticles, massage
and polish.
