Then how on earth is the plain ole consumer supposed to know the difference?  I
have also seen the 9 watt UV bulbs at home depot,  I am wondering if they are
comparable to Brisa.  They are I think I remember them being around $14 each,
but not exactly sure.

Just want to chime in my 2 cents... I have tried 4 gel systems. I have bought
the lamp for all 4. I have tried the various combos over the years, and I would
have to say that the lamp does make a difference.

And the bulbs ARE different some of the time, even if they look the same. My
IBD 2 handed lamp takes 2 long bulbs... they have a number printed on them...
my client who has worked at Seattle Lighting for 12 years looked at the bulbs
and said "We sell those for $3 each". I thought, sweet deal!!! Better than
$20!! She got them for me. They looked IDENTICAL. Same numbers and all...
including the UV at the end of the number. They did not fully cure my UV
Topcoat even, at double the time. Ordered bulbs from the beauty supply...
topcoat worked just fine again.

I wouldn't be suprised if they have special bulbs for special things... have
you seen the HUGE aisle of lightbulbs at home improvement stores?! Some are
cheap bulk commercial grade, some are REALLY pricey...

As I said, my two pennies...

Yeah, I have a REEEEALLLLLY hard time believing that the bulb company made a
bulb with a different intensity just for CND company!  I am sure they just buy
bulk bulbs!!

Hi Angie,

I am still using the bulbs that came with my Brisa lamp,  but I bought the ones
on premiernailsource.com  just go to the uv light or bulb listing and they are
in there,  it is a 9 watt bulb,  they fit perfectly,  look exactly the same.
just open your Brisa up and look at the bulb in there,  there is only one on
the site that looks like it.   I looked yesterday and they are only $4.95
each.  Quite a difference from $50 for 3.

As for the gels that I use,  I mostly use Starnails T3 fibergel (brush on) like
polish just with a very light touch,  LOVE IT,  very easy,   and I also have
YN's synergy gels,  that I have used a couple times ( have to get used to it)
but it does do well,  I have used YN's to do my own sculpts with embeddments
works great for that.   And I am starting to try some Akzentz,  I have the POW
(off white or natural),  and am absolutely loving it.  Works great with my T3
and have had rave remarks from clients about it.  As far as the Starnail T3,  I
also can use it to build with,  its great as well.

Hope this helps,

Shannon

Shannon ,

Please tell me what brand bulbs fits the Brisa lamp and how much do they cost?
I am currently learning on Brisa gel. I am having some chipping issues too.
What brand do you use now? This list is amazing. Thank-you

For some reason my bulbs fit just fine,  but I also do not use the Brisa gels,
I use other ones but I had the lamp and bought another one so that I can do two
hands at a time.  The Brisa just doesn't work for me,  most clients and myself
that I used it on,  peeled completely off in just a couple days,  or it chipped
badly.  None of the other systems did that for me.    As for the bulbs,  I am
still using the ones that came with the lamp.  Have not had to change them
yet,  but I did try one of the others to see if it fit and it does
fit perfectly,  I just  tried right now to make sure,  and yep it fits great.

Probably just the company saying that so that they can sell their bulbs for a
ridiculous price.

On the Brisa bulb, the plastic end cap that fits into the receptacle is
configured to fit only in the Brisa lamp. Other 9 watt bulbs don't
fit. The receptacle is turned 90 degrees so that if you try to put a regular
bulb in the Brisa lamp, the bulb won't lie horizontal against the ceiling of
the lamp. There is not enough clearance. Did that totally confuse you? I think
I am confused. But seriously, they are not interchangeable. There is a reason.
The gel was apparently developed for use with this particular bulb. And I don't
know what the difference is in the light emission!

Marsha,

Wont any 9 watt bulb work in the Brisa lamp,  they fit into mine just fine.  I
got mine through either Nailiteinc or Premier nail source for about 6.95 each.

Shannon, OPI make both regular and soak off gel. Brisa makes only regular gel.
I took the OPI Axxium class a month ago.....it is a regular gel class, but they
demo'd the soak off gel. And I bought one of the soak off gel polish kits. I am
a Brisa user and have been using it since 2003. It works great for me. The only
drawback, IMO, is the light. It works fine, but the replacement bulbs are
$50.!!! I don't want to risk service breakdown if I use a regular tunnel lamp!
There are lots of gels available. See how you like working with the Axxium and
remember.....it's not easy to learn and master! That learning curve is there
not matter what brand you use. When I started out, I was in a situation like
you....no mentors.....I also found this group and have been here ever since!
Good luck and keep up the search for information!!

This is a professional only store and all the girls know everything about hair
nothing about nails. Is OPI a regular gel system? Do you like it? I am taking a
class next month on the OPI and not sure if I should get that or the Brisa. I
think I am also going to get a soakable too just to play around with. I am so
grateful for this group. I am the only nail tech in a natural only nail salon
so finding information or asking other nail techs is a problem for me. And the
2nd job I am getting doing gels at another salon, again I will be the only nail
tech.

At least in my case, the people at the beauty supply houses aren't necessarily
educated in nails or hair for that matter. I don't think Brisa has come out
with soakables. I am anxious to try the Nailite. All I have now is OPI!

Thank you to everyone who responded about the gels. This was truly helpful to
me. I only have one more question. What is brand is everyone using for the
soakables? I went to the beauty supply store and asked if the Brisa was regular
or soakable and they looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language. They
had NO idea what I was talking about.
