Hi Cira, You will see a bunch of the same people on both boards, and also some different people on both. I must say that I have learned the most valuable information on these two boards. I don't know where I would be had I not found these. I would probably still be working at the spa downtown, making my 45% commission, doing nothing but polish or P&W. And bored to death, with the same ole same ole, and would probably still have lifting problems and only hand filing, and hardly doing any gels at all. Now I primarily do gels, they do them there, but not even close to what I can do with them. So I have set myself apart from everyone else around here. Thanks to these boards!!!! Shannon A.

Alright... I feel inspired to put my 2 cents in... I have seen the education thing on all sides.... a student, an educator, a seminar attendee. I think the biggest thing a class gives you is re-ignite-ing your passion for what you do. That being said, some people find ways to continue to be passionate about our industry in other ways... without going to classes. I always feel there is something to be learned from a good class, but there just isn't a whole lot of good ones out there anymore! My co-workers have turned into the "i'm not trying anything new, what I do works just fine" so I try to ignite THEIR passion with my doing new stuff. (It only kind of works!) And they wonder why I consistently make more money in less hours... LOL.... Anyway, when it comes to this subject, we need to remember that we are the top top tier of our industry here. We just spend more time on our career, are more passionate than the average tech, and so of course we are going to be more successful... even without a lot of classes. Now, on to the economy thing. See, I have a different view on this than a lot of folks, and it keeps me peaceful at heart and busy at work! When there is lots of money being thrown around and everyone is doing good, the discount salons do good business because at $15 fill + $3 repair + $2 shortening= $20 per week it's cool to not need an appointment and it doesn't matter how well they hold up. All of a sudden... economy goes down... money gets a little tight... have to work more hours to make the same... NOW I LOOK LIKE A GREAT VALUE! At $30 every 3 weeks... no extra charges... I actually SAVE the client $30 and they only have to find an hour to come see me instead of 3 visits! And they can talk to me. And they can budget it because it doesn't fluctuate. I give them a cheerful one hour break from their stressful, crappy economy life. I make sure my customer service stays excellent... and I stay busy while tumbleweeds blow through the discount salons. People have the money... YOU JUST NEED TO BE WORTH THEM SPENDING IT WITH YOU. This is a tough one to look in the mirror and admit to yourself. Would you spend the money to go to you? Why? This thinking will keep your head in the right place. And I like to reason it this way... Chanel makes money. So does Cover Girl. I choose to be Chanel. And the clients who appreciate "Chanel" come to me. Everyone is happy.... and Cover Girl still doesn't go out of business. We will come out of this recession stronger than ever. You know why? Because those new techs will never catch up with us who stuck it out in TIME and EXPERIENCE! There can be 4000 new techs, but as long as I am still in the biz they will never catch me!!! Things will get worse with the economy, the strong (like us) will survive, and then we'll get back to those boom years where you're turning people away after a 60 client work week! Just my two pennies as promised... Keeping my mouth shut is NOT my strong suit... LOL. Hang in there ladies.... it will all come around... although I do feel like a dying breed sometimes... so I hear ya, Dayna....
