I agree Lynnette. Part of the problem is over use of anti bacterial and antimicrobial products but not when it comes to hand sanitizers. Bath soaps, deodorants, dish detergent and the like. Washing your hands properly is still the best protection. I was not slamming Dr. Schneiderman, just the media. They work for their own agenda and those of their advertisers. That's all.
However the alcohol based sanitizeds are harsh on the skin. She is saying prevention. I do not feel she did this piece for ratings. She is quite knowledgeable having watched her over the years. At this point with the flu causing people to go crazy with fear, I would not like to see people go with a false sense of security and use a product claiming to kill it. If that were true then the bug would have been eradicated already. What many do not know or understand that using too much of that stuff can also make the germs resistant to die. I do not believe in hand washing AND sanitizing. It is overkill and will only backfire. Isn't that what MRSA is? Drug resistant strains? I will try to look up articles on this overuse of antibacterials. Soap and water is all that is needed and it does not have to be antibacterial soap. I hope this clarifies my first post. This is a subject we need to collaborate together on. She is going to send a more detailed post. But the jist of what she has to say is that there is no hand sanitizer out there that will Kill this particular swine flu. It's too new! So no company can claim that it kills THIS swine flu. HOWEVER...like they have been saying on the TV, hand washing is your best defense against this. A hand sanitizer works (pardon the pun) hand in hand with regular hand washing. Ultronics and Dr. G's are really better because they kill more bacteria and they do not dry the hands out with alcohol like Purell. My suggestion is to go to their websites and look for the list of things their product kills. www.ultronicsusa.com www.woodwardlabs.com The things to look for are that it kills psudomonis (sp?), HIV, Hep b and c, mursa and the like. Alcohol does not do that. I will let Joann give a more detailed and technical explaination. I think its really important that we all are very well educated on this subject for two reasons. We deal with the public everyday so we need to protect ourselves AND we can educate our clients with the correct info. Remember, the news and TV shows don't always give the most up to date info. They are media who are looking for ratings....JMHO (and many others too!) Joann has been working on getting the correct info ever since this hit the news and even before then so she'll keep us straight! I'll leave it to her to give you the skinny! all the best, Simmy Bredal-Bell Vicki Peters Nail Products Team Vicki Partner Brick, NJ <mailto:[email protected]> [email protected] _____ From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Adrienne Schodtler Sent: Wednesday, April 29, 2009 6:26 PM To: [email protected] Subject: NailTech:: Re: Swine Flu and Hands Sanitizer Simmy, What qualities should we look for in a hand sanitizer against this flu?
