I have been in business 20 years and my MOTHER who was in labor for 26 hours pays for her services. Grant it, I do give her a small discount; I don't charge her for repairs, gel polish, paraffin.the extras. I even charge my mom if she gives less than a 24 hours notice to cancel her appointment.that's my policy and it applies to her as well. On the other hand, I can't go to her business of 33 years and eat and drink for FREE. It's just business, plain and simple. My point is, it is BUSINESS and you have to treat it in that manner. When you provide services for free there is no perceived value and you want people to value you and your investment in you and them. The only time you should consider doing something free is when you're learning something new and you're not sure what to expect as far as service breakdown. Even then you should at least consider a small fee, minimum product cost. If you choose to practice on people try to do it during down time or days off so that it does not affect your business. People will always ask but YOU have to say, NO (unapologetically)! You do not need to give excuses, even if it didn't cost you anything to do. Queen B, you have to know your value and be okay with that. "Charge what you are worth and be worth what you charge." (Wow, I think I just said something) J I want to believe that the investment that you have made and continue to make is because you wanted a career (not a hobby) that you enjoy and can make a good living doing. Yes, you have business expenses but you also have personal expenses. If you service people for free how will you pay your expenses and live your life? I say, go stand in front of your mirror and remind yourself of who you are.QUEEN B and start saying NO (know that it's ok). Good luck and Best wishes.
