Thanks for the reply! I just cannot ever see my clients paying that much for a coating to last less than my manicures do!! Funny thing is, I have been criticized by a local salon owner when she told my daughter that I am undercutting the "going" rate of $50!!! Interesting, since I am apparently the only Minxer in MT. How much for a minx mani? Thanks! I do have a couple of clients who go 2+ weeks, but they have HARD, strong nails, wear them looong, and are careful to protect them. Most of my clients don't have even ONE of those attributes!! LOL I think the appealing part of Minx is the wild designs available. They are awesome, fun, and highly detailed. I've tried to apply them to enhancements with no luck. Enhancements add bulk to some degree, and sometimes the largest Minx size is just too small. Plus gel or acrylic nails are curve-ier (sp?) and the Minx are absolutely FLAT, so when I try to apply them there are wrinkles created which I just can't smooth away! (for those sewers, think easing a curved seam!) Most of my Minx clients came to me because they saw Minx in a magazine or in a TV piece and went to the Minx website to get info on where to go to get Minxed! I am the only tech in Montana doing Minx at this time (at least through last week! tisk). I enjoy doing them and the clients LOVE them. They are expensive for all involved. I am upfront about the wearability of Minx.....I always tell them, "you may get 10 days out of them". They do not chip. What happens is that they begin to "lift" at the free edge, probably due to picking, scraping, whatever and the adhesive gives way. They can be re-attached by using a hairdryer to heat them good, then pressing firmly. I realized how firm the adhesive works when I took my own off. I heated them and picked from the sidewall. Once I got a firm hold of the side of the Minx and pulled, it was more difficult than I imagined to pull them off. (Not difficult as to damage, but I had to give it some umph!) I do very few manicures....maybe because I'm lousy at it, but whatever the reason, I agree, 98% of my clients are gel wearers or pedicures. The people I've seen for Minx are curious. Time will tell if they become addicted to Minx. Montana has a c-o-n-s-e-r-v-a-t-i-v-e culture, so Minx may not go over well. Something to think about! Also from what I hear, on here, it is a fairly large investment.....it would scare me...actually it does scare me (away from buying it) How can you market it, with a straight face, if you know it won't last well. Initially I thought I had heard it lasted so long. ....and it doesn't adhere well to enhancements? I only have a few clients (growing again steadily woo-hoo) but 98% of them have enhancements on. Isn't that the norm? (maybe not the exact % but more enhancements than manis) once again...just curious.... Pati When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry... I scrub well, with scrubfresh, before I apply them. But I think that is mentioned in the video (not scrubfresh) but cleansing the nails. And I also hold the Minx close to the light in order to heat it up good. It seems to me if the adhesive on the Minx is hot it will adhere better. I feel a bit like a failure because they don't stay on everyone for 2 weeks! Marsha McDonald Rubino GIMME NAILS @ the Devonshire 37 Fifth St. E.
