I do the same thing with my flip flops. I take the pair I plan on wearing that day in the shower with me in the morning and use a nail brush and some old, cheap shampoo to scrub them down. You'd be amazed at the dirt that comes off them, and not from the bottom, but from the parts your feet touch!
