I remember back around 1996 or so.. one of the things we talked about on here was getting to Orlando for the Nailtech Networking the Internet Event that I was doing.
Putting a jar out was a suggestion.. ( wish I could remember who said it now) and have it say.. something like "My Orlando Nailtech Gathering", when clients would ask, we would let them know about this message board and how we are taking extra tips or extra work on to get to go and pay for it.
The jar usually filled and and most made it to the events yr after yr.
So yes.. I can imagine having a tip jar. lol
The clients were even more excited when we came back home, because of all the neat things we saw and did.. and learned. We showed them and used the newly learned techniques on them.. so all those tips.. came back to them!
Win win situation .
Apparently the situtation mentioned.. those people felt they "had" to put out a tip jar..
I guess it depends on your client base too.
LOL Kelley!! One of my clients got me one years ago. I told her I could never put it on my table. So what we agreed on was to put it on my reception table and SHE would put HER tios in it. Over the years I never took the $$$ out. I now have enough to go visit her in Utah near Vegas!!! She still comes wheb she is here!!
Just my little story.

Y'allOMGLet me tell y'all about this one. Y'all are gonna pee your pants. Y'all heard me talk about the "Very High End Spa" that I worked at that was just a expensive NSS. Ok, well the facial girls, and massage girls ( cuz the owner was lesbian and didn't hire men) so I can say girls. These service providers would find pretty trays or bowls and and put their own cash their 10's 20's so it would look like they were getting tipped well. I called it bating the client. Well the owner got pissed at me and told me to mind my own business and maybe I should try to get my tips up.I told I was doing just fine thank youDo y'all believe that?Caralyn.

OH! I dont think a tip jar is very cool. Here we go again with a lot of opinions. Clients don't have to give us tips. I like tips and I will reserve special favors for clients that give tips but to be blatant and put out a jar-----I wouldn't do that. Some clients may be so offended by it that they will deliberately NOT leave a tip because it's asked for.

Date: Monday, October 5, 2009, 11:31 AMGREAT ARTICLE!!!
I have actually contemplated raising my rates just a smidge and then explaining that I no longer accept tips. I have not done this cuz I have not totally thought it through. Yet it is something I still contemplate as something different from the other shops...Great service and no tip expectations....what do others think about this tip thing?!?!?!
