Hi Jennifer, My grandmother is a diabetic also and I give her pedicures. I trim
her toenails and everything. Granted her nails are not bad and very easy
to trim. As a general rule I don't do pedicures on diabetics, but she is my
grandma and I am very careful. I think if you make sure everything is very
sterile and don't dig out ingrowns, not to much harsh scrubbing and lightly
file his callouses, he should be fine. Maybe just file on his callouses a
little every week or two, removing it slowly and keeping it under control. The
doctors are rough and cut these things off of patients. Like I said I don't
usually do diabetics because I was told in school that we were not allowed to.
But I will for family to an extent.

Subject: NailTech:: Diabetic foot care advice needed

Hi all,

My father has a callus that's bothering him on both his big toes. His former
podiatrist (who retired) would send him to the whirlpool and then cut them off.
New doctor looked at them but didn't remove. I guess they bother him cause my
mom called to ask me about a pumice stone. I stopped her from doing that so I
could check here and see if there is anything I can safely do for him. So any
advice?

Thanks,
Jenn
