You can do a couple of different things. You can use a small piece of Kleenex, 
put it on the tip of the mandrel so it lays down over the sides and slip the 
mandrel. Then tear the  excess tissue off. Works wonderfully. The other option 
is to buy an adjustable mandrel from Young Nails. Love those too!
