Hi Denise! I'm willing to bet you haven't gotten many answers simply because there really isn't one! :) Trial and error, my dear... and it's that whole "opinions are like..." ahem. Well, you know what I mean!
I have used lots of gels... the only one I have had good success with is OPI Axxium. It seems to be a little more rigid and I have had NO lifting at all. It seems to level well and I have even sculpted some and done alright. I have clients who love love OPI polish, so the colors being in a name they know makes it an easy upsell. (For some reason it doesn't matter that it looks like the same gosh darn color, apparently it has to have the same name... wink). I charge an extra $10 for soak off lacquer, whether it is on a natural nail or over a traditional gel. When I add it to a manicure, I apply the soak off gel lacquer after the washing step, before any moisturizing. This way the nail is as clean and dry as it is going to get at any point in the service. After I am done applying the color to completion, I finish with the mask, paraffin, and massage. On a return service, I generally file it off with a 180 zebra since it is soft enough to roll off quickly, but it also comes off in about ten minutes in acetone for the paranoid-of-filing client. Hope this helps...
