Same exact thing happened to me but I had not even dehydrated the nail - I used straight acetone and dried it out and all was well. I did not stir my gel or use pH balancer OR primer on the second attempt, only acetone to dehydrate. I also did NOT remove shine, buff, etch etc... Just wanted to see how little prep I could get away with since Shellac requires NONE.
This just proves that I need to practice this (and obviously can't charge) until these issues are figured out...grrr..... More time and money lost..
