Lynnette, I've seen this once. The client did not wish to go to the doctor, she did not have insurance and feared the bills would be really high and I did not wish to touch or work on the nail. I sold her some Dr. G's and it cleared up in about three to four weeks. I think she went two to three appointments and I just wrapped the nail with a band aid and ignored it. and did her other nine nails.
