Believe it or not, it's not that hard to adjust to the conductive touch
screens-- even with really long nails! I'm amazed watching my clients navigate
their iPhones.

BTW: The screens are conductive. The BF understands and explains it better than
I do but it has to do with conduction of electricity-- like bio-electricity.
The same way those touch lamps work. He has a theory that a stylus made of a
conductive metal ought to work and his head is spinning with ideas on how to
make one for me if I end up waffling and getting one of these devices.

Deb: Yes. The Pixi SUCKS! OMG! The massage therapist next door has one and I
played with it for awhile yesterday and her keypad is actually worse to type on
than the iPhone. And she says she has all kinds of weird problems with it.

I also played the next door hair stylist's (yeah, we have the three businesses
all together in our building and we all get along really well-- the fourth
floor is the coolest hang out in town)
iPod touch-- which was better than that little pixi.

I don't love the virtual keypad. Too easy to make mistakes. The iPod Touch (is
that what y'all keep calling an "iTouch?") would suffice for me, but I really
love that the Palm has a "notes" field for each appointment AND a "notes" field
for each contact.

Rhonda: I thought about hopping on Ebay and just grabbing another Palm but,
let's face it, they aren't making the things anymore. I have no idea what kind
of life one has led or how long it will hold up. I don't want to put down $100
only to find myself a year from now with TWO dead or dying PPs!

I know I know... everyone wants me to join them in the future. No body really
understands why I don't want to answer my appointment book: "Just put it on
speaker phone, Maggie...." "Just use a bluetooth headset, Maggie...."

I HATE the phone. HATE the things. I hated the phone when I was 15 and I hate
the phone now. I hate the sound of it ringing (seriously raises my heart rate)
I hate answering it, I hate talking on it, I hate listening to voicemail. I
look forward to the day when I retire to a remote mountain cabin that has no
electricity and NO PHONE. (yeah, giving up the Internet will be rough, but if
it means not having a phone, I can handle it.)

The BF DOESN'T EVEN HAVE A CELL PHONE! Do you know how jealous I am?!

I wear a BT at work so I can answer the phone (because I need to) without
having to stop what I'm doing. The BT lives at work. It does not come home with
me. I am not interested in being wired to my phone 24/7 but I DO occassionally
have to talk on the thing when I'm away from the salon. I don't want to have to
answer the phone and then put my call on speaker phone ESPECIALLY IN A PUBLIC
PLACE because, let's face it: nobody really likes being on speaker for one
thing, and the other people in the store/restaurant/on the street/etc don't
need to hear my conversations. In fact, my in-laws and other clients don't need
to be privy to my conversations even if it's just to confirm or set an
appointment.

I don't want to go back to pencil and paper because it's heavy, space
consuming, and I'm really spoiled by being able to set up or cancel repeating
appointments all at once. That's been awesome.

Also-- I do NOT spend over $50 a month on my phone service! In fact, I
currently spend about $25-30 a month for the thing. I don't have a data plan,
I'm not in a contract, I don't send 9,000 text messages a month, and I don't
access the internet from my phone. I have a no contract, pay as you go account
with T-Mobile-- which, last I checked, was the only carrier that included their
no-roaming charges with pay-as-you-go accounts.

I don't get coverage at 8900 feet above sea level in the back country of the
Sierra Nevada like some people do-- but I DON"T NEED IT THERE EITHER! (and
neither does anyone else. If you fall down a cliff, let the bears eat you like
it was 1977-- you don't need to call your mom to check up on how your cat is
doing just because you noticed you have signal.)

I love my Palm. I just want something that does what my Palm does. I've already
sat myself down and had a long talk with myself and I know I'm going to have to
suck it up and just get used to a new platform/program/OS/ap or whatever these
things are.

Oh...anyway. So I'm not interested in getting a device and activating it with a
phone or data plan because I can't get the same plan-- or lack thereof-- if I
have a web-able device. All the carriers force you to purchase a data plan, and
I can't currently justify doubling or tripling my current cell phone budget
just for the inconvenience of having my phone/appt book be the same device.

I'm thrilled as punch for all y'all (and my OTHER neighbor, Steve) who are
loving the new world technology and don't understand my resistance.

I know. I'm not just a dork; I'm an obstinant and increasingly obsolete dork.

I just don't understand why personal computing devices got BIGGER? Palm pilots
were perfect, but instead, the world decided to opt for netbooks and iPads?! I
figure it's going to be another 5-10 years before palm sized computers are back
in style...by that time we'll probably have the option of having a micro-sd
expansion slot hardwired directly to our brains.

Hmmmmm...maybe this is why Nails Magazine decided to call my blog "Maggie
RANTS?" :-)

But seriously-- I'm listening to this Evo stuff. Keep talking guys! keep
talking.
