The key to getting your stones to stay on longer is using a "traditional" topcoat. Not a fast dry. Traditional topcoats contain more nitrocellulose where fast dries tend to be more acrylic base. The stones sink into nitrocellulose better and end up with product puddled around the stone (much like prongs on your ring) where thinner faster topcoats end up between the stone but not surrounding it. Same goes for glue.
The easiest way is to apply your color first. Then apply clear topcoat as you go. That way it's not drying out on you. I always use my Cina Topcoat. I was the one that picked the formula so I knew that I needed something "puffy" (for lack of a better term) so stones, dazzles, shells or flowers sink into it. I can do a mix of sizes too. Big, medium and small stones on one nail and it holds them all. Use a piece of dry spaghetti dipped in water (the starch gets sticky) to pick up your stones and place them. If you get topcoat or glue on your stick and it isn't sticky anymore, you just snap the end off and dip in the water. The only down side, after your stones are set...take a little brush and clean off some of your stones. If you use too much water you'll leave some starch behind. Finish with a coat of the Topcoat and those buggars are NOT moving. :) Kind Regards, Elaine T.
