I thought I would interject here....

If you were to put cotton under the nails you are asking for trouble. The
slightest bit of moisture would start bacteria and fungus to flourish since
the foot is a dark damp place. And cotton absorbs moisture. Also if any of
the cotton is left under the nails after sometime, either left purposely or
accidentally then it would start to break down - creating the best
environment for disaster.

Mentioned earlier was acrylic... this is a great idea because it thickens up
the nail plate and thus preventing it to cut into the flesh. However for
pincher (involuted or imbedded) nails this is a temporary relief it doesn’t
fix or reshape the nails.

What you need is a brace....a brace would work like the nose strips that
prevents people from snoring.

I recommend the BS Brace found at the International Pedicure Association.
The BS Brace is a fibreglass strip that the technician measures to fit the
nail perfectly across the nail plate, it is then adhered with a strong
resin, and then sealed with a top coat like sealer. The Brace forces the
nail to eventually flatten out. After the nail grows out ¾ of the way... and
the brace along with it... another brace can be applied.

To order this brace contact the International Pedicure Association

Linda can help you... tell her I sent you and that you are from the Beauty
Tech Group.

Michelle is right : curette (thanks Michelle)
I dont need a rasp because i can get the file on the corners because they
are not kept super short

I will not cut ingrown toenails. I do use a thin file. If you show them how
to do it, sell them a good thin toenail rasp, (is that what you use, Deb? I
think one of mine has the melon baller on the opposite end) I think that is
the term. I picked up some great ones at Chicago last year.
This way, you start them on it and then it is up to them to continue. Plus,
they will have a much better pain tolerance when they do it themselves.

Cathyren, I really agree with you here.. we recently had this discussion on
the forums and that was a big point many made, that too many techs routinely
snip the corners and this could actually cause problems such as ingrowns. OK
so now she got relief from the deep cuts for 2-3 weeks, but pedi's are
generally 6 wks, so now shes coming back sooner.. oops.. I really dont think
thats a good business decision!

One recent pedi I had they used this really great new drill bit (Simmy can
tell you about it). Immediately I was in less discomfort, I have not been in
pain for a while, some days, just some level of discomfort. About 2 weeks ,
maybe it was only 1 week, I was getting the numbness and pain again. I
discussed with the tech and I also spoke to Simmy who explained while this
is a great bit, it really should not be used on pinchers like I have.

I've got this fantastic itty bitty melon baller thingie tool hahaha I know
there is a proper name for it .. but it escapes me right now :) and it does
a fantastic job of cleaning the nasties out of the side wall
