Hi Kay,

The website for the Arizona State Board is http://www.azboc.gov

The reciprocity law in Arizona is as follows:
A.R.S. ยง 32-513 Reciprocity
Notwithstanding sections 32-510, 32-511 and 32-512, a person is entitled
to receive a cosmetologist, aesthetician or nail technician license if the
person:
        1. Submits to the board an application for a cosmetologist,
aesthetician or nail technician license on a form supplied by the board.
        2. Submits satisfactory evidence of either of the following:
            (a) The person is licensed in another state or country.
            (b) The person graduated from a school that offers a
cosmetology, aesthetics or nail technology course substantially similar to
the requirements of this state
and passed the board approved cosmetology, aesthetician or
nail technician examination.
        3. Pays the prescribed fees.

As I read it I believe it means that if you have either A or B above that AZ
will give you an Arizona license without any other requirements. So If you
are licensed in another state, all you need to do in Arizona is apply. You
should be OK without taking any additional education.

There is no such thing as a "managers license". However each salon must
have a designated manager. It is attached to the salon license, not the
technicians license. All you need to do is let the state know who is the
manager. That will be the point of contact for the board.

Arizona state law does not address a salon in the home. So if you are
applying for a salon license for your home, I would imagine that you would
need to comply with all of the state board rules for a regular salon. You
would also need to comply with any city regulations or homeowners
association rules.

I have owned a nail salon in Arizona for 7 years and have never seen or
heard from the state board other than to renew my license every year. Now
they are not even sending out renewal notices any more.

Hope that helps.

P.S. 2011 is the Year of the Nail Tech.

Subject: NailTech:: AZ Nail Tech Info?

Hello All!!

I am currently living in MN, but we are seriously considering moving to AZ
in 2-3 years after our younger daughter graduates.
I have been trying to research the laws & rules of AZ Cosmetology Examiners
and can't seem to find what I am looking for.

Does anyone have any information in regards to the different requirements of
AZ vs MN?

For example, how would reciprocity apply? In MN we are required 350 hours to
take the board exams - it looks like AZ requires 600. Does that mean I would
have to take another 250 hours of classes? Also what is involved in
obtaining a managers license in AZ? and can you operate a nail studio out of
your home or must you only be allowed to work in a licensed salon?

Thanks to anyone in advance who can help shed some light on this. I don't
want to wait till last minute to find this information out. ;)
