The iPad with 3G costs more than the iPad with just wifi and I must pay $30 a month for the 3G service. Wifi is free at wifi hot spots ( but unsecured ) and I have wifi ( secured ) at home that we pay for with our Internet provider.
The salon where I work does not have wifi. If I wanted to put it in I could, but I would have to pay for it and then it would be secured. I am already paying for the 3G so I see no need to put in wifi at the salon. That's just my choice. You could pay less for the iPad with wifi only, then put wifi in the salon and still pay about the same monthly fee for the wifi as 3G. You can also get the limited data 3G plan that is $20 and use it only for your square charges, then use the free unsecured wifi for all other web browsing. I have the unlimited 3G data plan for $30 a month. So many options it can make your head spin.
