I enjoy helping, that's what I'm here for. I'm puzzled by the change in your
nail condition if you haven't been buffing or using a bowl to soak, one of
those usually come into play. I do understand what you mean on the top coat,
here is a video that focuses only on top coat if that would help:

I will ask a couple other people if they have some ideas, can you let me know
what process you use step by step and what colors you wore as well as what
products are used and what lamp so we can try to figure things out?

HI Holly: I am using acetone from Sally Beauty Supply. My natural nails were
healthy, not brittle nor soft, flexible and pink with bright white free edges.
I am working on getting my application thinner. Hopefully that will solve the
problem, product is on fairly thin, I think, but the top coat is so very thick
I'm not convinced I'm getting it thin enough or getting perfect coverage --
does that make any sort of sense to you. I keep telling myself I didn't always
know how to do a chemical peel and am now very comfortable doing them and as
comfortable teaching the Plastic Surgeons and Derms to do them, so I convince
myself there is hope yet. :) Holly, I truly appreciate the effort you are
making for me. Thank you so much. Pat. Pat. SmithMedical

Date: Wed, 18 May 2011 10:21:22 -0400Thanks, Holly, I am not buffing nor am I
soaking in acetone. What I have found that works best for removal, for me, is
using about an 8th of a 4 x 4 coarse gauze (cutting a 4 x 4 in half then
cutting the halves in half and then cutting the remaining small pieces in half
again), saturating with acetone, folding in half again, placing on the nail
plate and tightly wrapping with aluminum foil. The coarse gauze seems to
really scrub the shellac off easily, I give it a little twisty turny before
pulling it off and there is usually very little left to scrape off with an
orange wood stick. I will try again to get colour, etc. applied more thinly.
Why do my nails seems to be so much softer and weaker after wearing Shellac?
How long should I be expecting Shellac to last without peeling, chipping, etc.
I am not getting 14 days -- perhaps 10. I will try applying as per the video.
Thanks for your help. Pat. Pat. SmithMedical [email protected]

Don't soak off in a bowl of acetone!

Here is a troubleshooting video, let me know if it helps or if you need more
ideas on what it could be :o)

Subject: NailTech:: Shellac
Date: Tue, 17 May 2011 18:46:43 -0400Hi: I am struggling to get the Shellac
really thin, what is the trick. Also I am not getting 14 days wear out of it
-- it starts to peel. chip or crack after about 10 days, I'm assuming product
is too thick? The other thing I've noticed that my nails are much softer than
they were when I started using Shellac, and they are breaking and/or tearing
with product on them. What am I doing wrong. Many thanks for your insight and
help. Pat. Pat. SmithMedical [email protected]
