Hi Caralyn,

My sister Carol, who helps me every year with the "Nail Tech
Networking Event of the Smokies" in Gatlinburg, TN. does insurance &
taxes for her career. Since I've had my beauty license since 1987 and
we're very close sisters, she's intimately aware of what we in the
beauty industry need. I've seen her go to bat for her clients (1 of
them was a former salon owner I used to rent from) to help get their
paperwork filed correctly in order to expedite their insurance
claims.

Plus it's good to have someone who honestly cares about getting you
signed up for what you need and can afford, not what will make the
insurance agent the highest commission for that month. Carol can
explain everything about insurance in an un-complicated way so that
you know exactly what each policy is all about. That way there's no
unpleasant surprises when you think you're covered for something, but
then find out in a crisis that you are not!

I personally have a disability policy & a critical illness policy,
plus life insurance through Mutual of Omaha with Carol as my agent. In
fact, I keep her contact info (below) up on my web site
(www.jillsnails.com) under 'links' because I truly believe that what
she offers is crucial. Right now as we speak, there's the paperwork to
increase my critical illness policy by $150k (costs less than $100 per
month for me....basically the amount of 2 dinners out per month)
laying on my dining room table waiting for me to fill it out. Since
both of our parents had cancer in the last 2 years, and each of them
had a parent that also had a form of cancer, we feel it's in our best
interest to lock in a policy now while we're healthy. Because you just
never know what life has in store for you until you get that
diagnosis...and then it's too late to qualify.

Women usually outlive their spouses, which means that for many they
will live well beneath the standards they were used to if their
husband was the main bread winner & suddenly his paycheck is gone. I
could tell you dozens of stories about people we personally know whose
lives were impacted for the better or for the worse when life suddenly
went in the wrong direction (be it illness, accident or death). 100%
of them who didn't have the insurance they needed were for the worse.

Just something to think about..........

Disability insurance- especially vital for the self employed (can you
live without your income?).

Business Overhead Expense (BOE) insurance- covers your salon expenses
if you are the owner (so your salon won't close if you suddenly can't
work due to an illness or accident).

Life insurance- all types (if you love your family you will provide
for them when you are gone).

Critical Illness insurance- pays a lump sum of cash if diagnosed with
a major illness such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease (very useful
if you can't qualify for disability insurance).

Long Term Care insurance- so you can be cared for with dignity without
having to sell your home and drain your bank account.

IRA's and Annuities roll over a 401-k without being taxed - save for
your retirement (social security was meant to supplement your income
not be your income).

Taxes- individual and self-employed income taxes for all states
(finding LEGAL tax deductions for you by performing a personalized
analysis of your tax situation).
