You know.... I thought I was past all of this when starting at my current
location. We started with the Footsie Footbath system, and they leaked like
a Sieve! Some times 2 liners even leaked. This defeats the whole purpose,
especially at $.99 a piece! We changed to the Belava System and they rarely
leak Thank God. But just in case they do, the pan the liners go into have to
be thoroughly cleaned and treated with a disinfectant. If water makes it
into the pans through a crack it, bacteria can make it back up through that
crack.

The clients were all excited to see we were using the disposable pan
liners. I believe it gives a False sense of security to the clients. It just
proves NOTHING is Safe without proper Sanitation Procedures'. we just don't
know what ALL of those procedures should be yet. Nothing is fool proof.
Unless my since of touch and feel are a bit off.. it seems like the liners
have gotten a bit thinner since we started with them, which increases the
chances of leakage. Sometimes I wonder about a Tall Kitchen Garbage Bag!
That must be where the Original Idea came from and I bet Those don't leak!

On the other Hand I can use the Gooiest, Gritty Gunk I want on the feet
and it sticks to the liner and gets thrown away! I LIKE that Idea.
EVERYTHING I use in a Manicure or Pedicure is thrown away unless it is
Stainless Steel. I have been doing that for 10 years. Buying in bulk and
cutting to size. " I" Feel better about doing it that way. But if One more
Item on the internet tells people to bring their own tools I am gonna
scream! I HATE it when people bring their Dirty Tools from Home!

THEM: " I want you to use My Tools"

ME: OK When were they last disinfected?

THEM : Excuse me?

ME: When were these tools last scrubbed and some sort of a disinfectant use
on them?

THEM : Well...Never it's My Skin

Then I have to go into the schpeele about how it doesn't matter whose
skin it is.. it will grow Bacteria! Please don't open that baggie with those
Dirty Tools in it because my area is clean, And what they need to do with
those tools if they ever want me to use them. (which ends the need for them)
In the meantime since mine have been scrubbed with a brush, soap and water,
coming out of a disinfectant wet storage (Total Immersion) do you
understand why I would rather use My Tools today? I have seen tools with
Skin Stuck On Them in a Baggie!

One day I am going to write an Article about How SPOILED I was living in
the Chicago area and never new it! Illinois was one of the most progressive
states in its law of governing our industry and requiring CEU's, and the
Availability of these classes. I had more at my fingertips than I EVER knew.
Arizona may have up'ed the number of hours it take to get a license 650 ,
but most people never see a class after that. If classes aren't required
people don't ever think of getting them. The State Board may not really do a
whole lot for us but they do make us aware of requirements. They do Promote
Education. I really feel like I have come back to the "Wild West" as far as
Sanitation is concerned. I was living in Friggin La La land! So I have made
it a Personal Goal to Educate Every Client I come in contact with. Some
women were actually shocked when I said "anyone with a color printer can
have a license today" when discussing some of the local "Deep Discount"
places. They thought No One would ever stoop to doing such a thing. One of
our State Inspectors got a Staph Infection from one of the "Good" ones last
year. Why is there always Bad Press on the internet about Pedicures, yet No
One Organization Promoting how to have a Safe Service. We need across the
board Industry Standards! On the Other Hand who is going to enforce them
right!

Thank You for letting me Vent.

I want to say that I have met some Amazing Nail Professionals here in
Arizona! Many of them feel the same way I do. It's a big battle for all Good
Techs. Most of the public is SO Uninformed. I just didn't realize how many
resources I had in IL.

I use pedi-redi soak also...have for like 18 years..love it! Anyway...just
wanted to add..I have read that using hot water with the bleach will reduce
the efficacy of the bleach. Using cold water is better. I always used hot
water until this was mentioned..I think it was Karen Hodges that had
mentioned it...years ago... She usually knows what she's talking about!

at the end of the day I use spa clean, weekly I run pool algecide thru it.
I know the algecide works great because both times I have moved to a new
salon and done an initial cleaning on the tubs I have run it through and all
the green algae that was in there came out, it was rather shocking because I
never see green now, just that first cleaning. I use pedi redi soaks and I
can telll a difference if I use other soaks because they leave a film that
is harder to scrub off.

What is everyone using to clean their chairs? Bleach, OPI Spaclean, etc.
Thanks
