I cure the gel, buff gently where the stones will go, and use glue. This holds very well, but many of my clients prefer me to topcoat over them as well, which means the stones aren't coming off at all-- in fact, taking them off at the next appointment is challenging and nothing smells better than burning glass from drilling through those badboys(not!) I don't like topcoating over stones either. It "flattens" out the facets in the stones and you lose so much of the effect.
