What is hilarious is I have a whole clientele of different ethnic groups who
are like "DAMN, this white girl can do NAILS!!". I tell them that there are
more of us "non discount nail artists" around than they would think... we just
aren't in strip malls charging $10. You have to look a bit for us... we cost
more... but we are WORTH it. They tell their friends, and so on, and so on... :)

On a serious note...
Although, while some of it has to do with the proliferation of discount salons,
a lot also has to do with the increased cost of marketing. It is now cheaper to
rent a space in a strip mall than to have a nice little place and advertise.
The ads that cost me $40 in 1998 are now $150. It's sad. And with today's
internet market... maintaining a website and doing social media can be
expensive too, and time consuming. Gone are the days when you gave some full
sets to an auction at your local school, and paid $40 to the local paper for a
tab insert in the paper that they designed and ran.... and could get a full
clientele off that. Added to the fact that the nail consumer wants MORE... art,
value, cleanliness, sanitation, quality... and our prices have gone up so much
for overhead, it is really tough to balance it. BUT IT IS DOABLE :)

Diana, that was funny as hell.... rotflmao....

Wow....it's so true I have been doing nails since I went to Cosmo school while
still in high school however years later went back after never finishing and
got just my nail license 17 years later I finally have an opportunity have a
salon of my own to find that there aren't many American nail techs with talent
and quality crafting.  It's sad how young people of today have no value for
craft nor do they understand that those other salons that are cheap maybe
faster and maybe even last a little longer between fills is because they don't
use professional products they are an assembly line of family or unlicensed
workers damaging their nails.

I'd go to a white girl any day!!!
