Full Explanation:

An association management vendor RFP is about to kick off, led by
Sylvie. One of the key attributes of such an organization is the
ability to offer a multi-tenant membership management system - a
database combined with hooks into their accounting system as well as
the ability to accept payment via various methods including their own
merchant accounts for credit card transactions. Paypal is most
definitely a sub-optimal method and is only being used currently due
to expediency. Its an open question whether we'll have a system to
accept credit card swipes at future meetings for membership (as
opposed to registration - its important to keep the funds discrete
based on source).

The NewNOG (soon to be NANOG) systems are still a work in progress. As
we put enhanced financial controls into place, the payment systems
will evolve.The likely resolution horizon is six months for a fully
acceptable and compliant rev.1 solution (realistically, not
moonbeams). Things will likely iterate from there.
